Today is commonly known as Black Friday, the day retailers nationwide hope for their books to go into the black as shoppers flock to the stores for holiday deals.
This morning our business reporter Brian Blackwell took a tour around the retail centers of Cape Girardeau, heading out before dawn to join the throngs that waited outside locked store doors to get the best holiday deals.

Pretty much everyone had a reason to give thanks this holiday season. But some people from Southeast Missouri had more reason than usual this year.
This Thanksgiving we published six stories of people who, for whatever reason, were very thankful this holiday season. These are people like the Jones family, whose two sons were struck by E. Coli earlier this year.
Just head to the local news section of our site to read these stories, or look for the links attached to the Jones' story.
And of course there's "America's Got Talent" winner Neal E. Boyd, a Sikeston native who took home a $1 million prize and a whole load of stardom after winning the show.
Boyd sat down for a video interview with us recently. Click here to watch the video.
A Jackson man was hit by a car early this morning in Stoddard County, two miles north of Advance.
Snow may be on the way this weekend. The National Weather Service is predicting a rain/snow mix will fall on Cape Girardeau Sunday.
