2 suburban St. Louis men accused of Southeast Missouri mortgage fraud

U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway says two men from suburban St. Louis committed wide-scale mortgage fraud right here in Southeast Missouri, the first accusation of this kind that we know of locally.

The men are expected to appear in court on a 34-count indictment Thursday, the Associated Press is reporting. The two worked for Century Mortgage and Finance Inc., a now-defunct company that had offices in Sikeston and Cape Girardeau.

Three from Stoddard County sentenced to prison

Three men from Stoddard County had a bad week last week — they were sentenced to prison on varying charges.

One is Jerry Brandon Gross, who pleaded guilty to printing counterfeit money. The in-home printing operation was discovered after fake bills started showing up at local businesses, police said. Others were sentenced for resisting arrest and drug possession.
