JACKSON -- Lynnore Meyer, a third-grade teacher at Orchard Drive Elementary School, is no stranger to her school district. The 31-year veteran educator has moved her classroom 10 times and to five different buildings within the district.
"As a pack rat, I have accumulated a great amount of learning materials over the years," she said. "Frequently, other teachers call me 'The Source' and come to my room needing something to use in their classroom. Surprisingly I usually have what they need."
Meyer said she tries to emphasize the positive when working with her students. She enjoys using incentives like pretzels to help award her students for their performances.
"When caught being good, responding correctly or following directions, they may receive a no-fat, healthy treat for their efforts," she said. "I try to encourage them to make the right choices, because usually, good things happen when the right choice is made."
Besides the numerous moves, Meyer has worked with many children who have challenges of some type. It's important to include these children in the class activities and adapt the curriculum to meet their needs, she said.
"This enhances the learning environment for others," said Meyer. "The beautiful thing is that little children do not see these classmates as being any different from themselves. They learn from each other and help each other to bridge these physical impairments."
Meyer is a former Brownie and 4-H leader. She is married and has four adult children. She enjoys spending time with her three "delightful" grandchildren.
She has many hobbies, including craft projects, needlework, sewing, reading, horseback riding and camping. She and her husband like to go on trail rides and camp with their horses, and during the winter months they are avid Southeast Missouri State University basketball fans.
They are members of the Jackson Trail Riders and Tennessee Walking Pleasure Horse clubs.
Meyer is a member of Hanover Lutheran Church where she serves on the altar guild. During the summer she was a craft leader for Vacation Bible School.
