THEBES, ILL. - A Thebes, Ill. man suffered major injuries early Monday when the car he was driving struck an embankment and overturned along Illinois Route 3.
The man, James M. Knapp, 19, was transferred to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, said a spokesperson with the Illinois State Police at Ullin. Knapp remained in serious condition in the hospital's intensive-care unit, a Southeast spokesperson said Monday night.
The police spokesperson said Knapp was injured when the southbound car he was driving ran off the right side of the roadway four miles south of Highway 146. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which crossed over the roadway, struck the embankment and overturned, he said.
He said the accident occurred at 2:30 a.m. No one else was in the car with Knapp, the spokesperson said.
