A Texas man was killed, and 11 people were injured in two separate accidents Wednesday along Southeast Missouri highways. Both accidents were investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

It was unclear which of the two had been driving, according to patrol reports. The vehicle with Holder and Whiteley in it had exited from Route U in Pemiscot County to Interstate 55 and failed to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle was hit by a vehicle driven by William Palmer, 42, of Kennett. It then overturned on the guard rail, throwing them from the vehicle. The accident happened about five miles south of Hayti.

Holder's body was taken to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti. Whiteley was taken by helicopter to Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn.

Palmer was taken by ambulance to Twin Rivers Hospital in Kennett. His son, William Palmer Jr., 16, who had been a passenger, was taken by helicopter to Memphis also. Brett Palmer, 14, was taken to the Kennett hospital.
