Wednesday's official high at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport was 103 degrees, while the low was a sweltering 80. That's the first time this year Cape Girardeau cracked the century mark. It was also the first three-digit reading here since Aug. 4, 2010, when the high at the airport was 101. (It reached 100 degrees on Aug. 3, 2010 also.)...

Wednesday's official high at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport was 103 degrees, while the low was a sweltering 80. That's the first time this year Cape Girardeau cracked the century mark.

It was also the first three-digit reading here since Aug. 4, 2010, when the high at the airport was 101. (It reached 100 degrees on Aug. 3, 2010 also.)

The last time Cape Girardeau reached 103 degrees was Aug. 16, 2007. August was particularly hot in 2007. That month saw six days when the high temperature reached 100 degrees or higher.

Still, Wednesday's high was not a record. In 1987 the record high for the date was 104 degrees.

Today's forecast calls for sunny skies with a high in the low 90s. East northeast breezes will be between 5 and 8 miles per hour. There's a 20 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms tonight. The low will be in the low 70s.
