Teenagers from across the region will be in town through Tuesday to participate in a traffic safety conference.

The Team Spirit Traffic Safety Leadership Training Conference, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Safe Communities Program and the Missouri Department of Transportation's Office of Highway Safety, will teach participants about youth traffic safety issues, according to a news release about the conference.

Students will create an action plan to address concerns such as drinking and driving, texting and driving, safety belt use and related issues, the release stated. They will take the plan back to their schools and communities to implement it this fall, the release said.

Students and advisers from Maiden, Notre Dame, Southern Reynolds County, St. Vincent's of Perryville, Woodland, Scott County Central, Leopold, Oran and Perryville high schools will participate in the conference, which runs through Tuesday at Drury Lodge Conference Center in Cape Girardeau.
