CHARLESTON, Mo. — Police are investigating a fatal shooting.

At 12:08 p.m. Friday, the Charleston Department of Public Safety received calls about a person shot in the 500 block of Sy Williams (South Elm Street).

At the scene, officers found an unresponsive man, later identified as Jacquon Smith, 18, of Charleston, with a gunshot wound.

Charleston Department of Public Safety director Robert Hearnes reported Smith died at the scene.

Hearnes requested anyone with information concerning this crime to contact Charleston officers at (573) 683-3737.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
