A proposal that would've given the board of directors of the Sedgewickville Fire Protection District the power to raise the tax levy to 30 cents per $100 assessed valuation failed election day.
By 30 votes, 128 to 158, voters in the fire protection district said they didn't want to give that power to the board of directors.
No organized campaign for or against the proposal made itself known. Board members simply touted the project to friends and neighbors, said a spokesperson for the Bollinger County clerk's office.
According to the proposal, the money generated from the tax levy would've been spent at the discretion of the board and wasn't earmarked for any special projects.
