Tap water samples taken in Cameron tumor probe

CAMERON, Mo. (AP) -- State and federal officials make a return trip to northwest Missouri in their investigation of a high number of brain tumors in area residents.
The team from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Missouri Department of Natural Resources on Monday took samples of tap water from homes in Cameron and the surrounding area.
The samples will be checked at labs in Kansas City and Alabama for potential health hazards such as pesticides, herbicides, dioxins and metals. Results are expected back in about two weeks.

Soil and water tests taken from Cameron's water supply and site of the former Rockwool Industries insulation plant did not reveal any health threats linked to the tumors. Up to 68 people with ties to the Cameron area have reported tumors.
