KZIM radio personality Cindie Jeter's "Talk of Cape" morning show has been canceled and replaced with an earlier show featuring Jeter and station manager Terry Hester.
James Zimmer of Cape Girardeau-based Zimmer Broadcasting Inc. said the decision was based on an "informal study" that revealed listeners preferred syndicated radio host Neal Boortz in the 9 a.m. time slot. Boortz is an outspoken, bawdy Libertarian radio personality who broadcasts out of Atlanta.
But Zimmer said local voices on KZIM have been preserved through an 8 a.m. weekday show with the working title "Morning Meeting with Terry and Cindie." The hourlong show features interviews with local community leaders and others interspersed with news, weather and sports.
Boortz is on from 9-10:30 a.m.
"We're always receptive to what the community is looking for and what listeners want," Zimmer said. "At this time, this is what our research is telling us."
He said Jeter, KZIM's assignment editor, will play more of a role in the station's newsgathering operation.
Jeter would only say she loved doing "Talk of Cape" and referred all other questions to station management.
