PADUCAH, Ky. The Paducah Symphony will hold its first Young Artists Competition this year.

The competition is open to high school students in two divisions piano and other orchestral instruments. Participants must prepare a movement from a concerto in the standard orchestra repertoire, or a work of similar stature for which an orchestra accompaniment is available.

The selection must be no longer than 15 minutes and must be memorized.

Musicians must submit an application form, a $15 entry fee and an audio cassette tape for preliminary judging. The mailing deadline is Feb. 6.

Those selected for final auditions will be notified by Feb. 20, and finalists will audition on March 13.

Each of the two winners will receive a $250 cash prize and will perform with the orchestra in its final subscription concert of the season on April 17.
