Brandon Swanner, a 10th- grade student at Scott City High School, has been selected to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus this summer.
During the three-week academy, students attend accelerated learning activities in a second area of interest to the student. Students are chosen for the program based on academic achievement, involvement in extra-curricular activities, intelligence test scores, teacher recommendations, and a written essay on problems in today's society.
Swanner is a member of National Honor Society, band, Future Business Leaders of America, Science Club, speech team, Scholar Bowl, Model U.N., and is an "A" honor roll student. He is also a Boy Scout patrol leaders and a Life Scout. He is a member of a church youth group, has participated in the Horizons summer enrichment program at Southeast Missouri State University, placed first in the local V.F.W. Voice of Democracy contest, and received a "1" rating in Missouri State Band competition.
Swanner is the son of Don and Maddie Swanner of Scott City.
