Suspects from home invasion fled scene, law enforcement

The Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department is searching for four suspects involved in a home invasion Thursday in the 1000 block of Village Lane.

According to a news release issued by Cape Girardeau County Sheriff John Jordan, at 10:12 p.m. the sheriff's office received a report of a home invasion in the Cape Rock Village area.

The residents of the home, a family of four, were in the home when what are believed to be three armed men wearing bandannas and dark-colored clothing kicked in the front door and entered the home.

When the homeowner surprised the intruders, the suspects fled through the front door and fired multiple times at the homeowner, striking his home and vehicle in the driveway. It is believed the suspects ran to an awaiting vehicle.

No one was injured during the invasion, the release said.

Officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department who were assisting sheriff's deputies spotted a suspect vehicle leaving the area. The officers stopped the vehicle in the area of Amblewood and Briarcliff drives just off Lexington Avenue, and four suspects exited the vehicle and fled into a wooded area.

A perimeter was established and a manhunt with officers and canines began, but officers were unable to locate the suspects, the release said.
