The Jackson teen who is the main suspect in a shooting that took place Tuesday evening at a Jackson carwash spent the night in a detention center and is facing felony charges.

The 16-year-old suspect allegedly shot Jeremy Voshage, 17, also of Jackson, three times over what Jackson police chief James Humphreys said appears to have been a love triangle dispute over a girl, although police continue to investigate what led to the shooting.

Voshage, who suffered three gunshot wounds to the lower extremities, underwent surgery Tuesday night at Saint Francis Medical Center and is in serious but stable condition. He is doing as well as can be expected, considering his injuries, Humphreys said.

Police were notified that someone had been shot at the Shawnee Square Carwash and Storage, 560 N. Shawnee Blvd., about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.

The callers said they were driving by the parking lot of the four-bay carwash in the suburban neighborhood and heard gunshots. They pulled over, found Voshage lying on the ground, and called the police.

Voshage was transported to the hospital for emergency surgery shortly after police arrived.

Less than an hour later, the suspect was found in the area, arrested and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Cape Girardeau where he was charged with armed criminal action and first-degree assault.

Police combing the area around the long, blue storage garages at the carwash were able to recover several casings and the only weapon believed to be involved, a .22-caliber rifle.
