A 22-year-old Cape Girardeau man was in jail Monday afternoon, charged in the early-morning attempted robbery of the McDonald's on Broadway.
Bobby Joe Hastings was arrested and charged with felony first-degree attempted robbery following the 1 a.m. incident. Hastings was being held at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on a $75,000 bond, according to police spokesman Darin Hickey.
Hastings was arrested at about 11 a.m., about 10 hours after police received a call from a restaurant employee claiming that someone with a knife had tried to rob the restaurant.
Police received a call at 1 a.m. from an employee at the McDonald's at 1925 Broadway. The employee told police that someone wearing a ski mask walked up to the drive-thru window, displayed a knife and demanded cash, Hickey said. The employee slammed the window closed, screamed for help and the suspect ran. No one was hurt, and no money was taken.
