CAIRO, Ill. -- A suspect has been taken into custody in connection to a Feb. 26 homicide in Cairo.
Christopher H. Simpkins, 43, of Cairo has been arrested, according to a Tuesday news release from Illinois State Police. Officials have been investigating the homicide with the Cairo Police Department.
No motive has been determined, the news release said, and the investigation continues.
The day of the incident, Cairo police conducted a check on Gloria F. Wiggins, 25, about 11:15 p.m. at a residence on Elmwood Street. Officers found Wiggins dead in the home and contacted Illinois State Police for assistance. Other law enforcement agencies were involved as well, including the Alexander County Sheriff's Department and Department of Children Family Services.
Alexander County Coroner Willie Bingham completed an autopsy Saturday. Results are pending until the investigation is complete. Bingham could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
