Suspect in Cape Girardeau murder to stand trial in St. Louis

Tambra Turner, a Sikeston woman charged with a February 2008 Cape Girardeau murder, will be tried in St. Louis County starting on April 12, 2010, according to Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle.

The case against Turner is set for a three-day jury trial, Swingle said.

Turner is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, property damage, and burglary in connection with the shooting death of 20-year-old Chabreshea Egson on Feb. 23, 2008.

Turner allegedly broke into the residence on North Spanish Street where Egson was staying and shot her because she had discovered her estranged husband was seeing Egson, according to testimony the state presented at a preliminary hearing.

The case was transferred to St. Louis County last month on a change of venue at the request of public defender Jennifer Booth, Turner's attorney.

Swingle said the case was assigned to 21st Judicial Circuit Judge Robert S. Cohen.
