A man suspected of robbing a Cape Girardeau convenience store last weekend has been arrested, police said Friday.
Dustin W. Durbin, 20, of Cape Girardeau was in custody in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and was to be transported back to Cape Girardeau County, according to Darin Hickey, Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman.
Durbin was being held on a $100,000 bond. A warrant for felony first-degree robbery was issued for Durbin on Tuesday.
Durbin is suspected of entering Amerimart, 1320 W. Cape Rock Drive, about 6:30 p.m. Sunday and threatening an employee, demanding money and fleeing on foot. A probable cause statement prepared by Cape Girardeau police Sgt. Don Perry said a witness told police the suspect took $300. The suspect did not display a firearm but claimed he had one, police said. A clerk said the suspect had been in the store twice and left before entering a third time, approaching the counter on the pretense of buying a soda, and robbing the store, according to the probable cause statement.
The statement said the suspect told the clerk to give him money "or I will blow your brains out."
Surveillance camera photos of the suspect inside the store were released to the public Monday.
A probation agent called police to tell them Durbin was the suspect after seeing surveillance images from the store, the statement said.
After interviewing his mother and sister, police found out Durbin had shaved his head and left the area.
