Jim Welker, superintendent of the Cape Girardeau School District, has been recognized by the Missouri Association of School Administrators for outstanding performance as a new superintendent.
Welker received the award last month from the association, and a similar honor on Thursday at the 51st Annual Recognition Banquet at the Show Me Center. The superintendent was nominated for the award by his colleagues in the state's Southeast region. Nominees must be a practicing superintendent in their second or third year of employment as a superintendent, and have made a measurable contribution to the school district they serve.
At the banquet, the district received the Distinction in Performance Award for meeting 13 of 14 Missouri School Improvement Program standards in the Annual Performance Report last year.
