CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Cape Girardeau Area Vocational School offers six summer classes for children.
The classes begin June 10 and enrollment is open now. Three sessions of each course will be offered through the summer.
Children, ages 6-12, who have just completed kindergarten through sixth grade are eligible to attend. Enrollment is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The courses offered are Computer Fun, Introduction to Keyboarding, Kitchen Concoctions, Crafty Kids, Around the World and a cheerleading clinic. Enrollment fees are charged for each course.
Students in the Computer Fun class will learn computer terminology, handling of diskettes and basic keyboard usage. Each student will have a computer to use, and students may choose IBM or Apple IIe computers.
Introduction to Keyboarding will teach "touch type" as well as some tips on successfully using the computer. Students will also teach correct techniques from posture to typing the ABCs. Students in this class may also choose IBM or Apple IIe computers.
Students in Kitchen Concoctions class will cook items like French toast and chocolate chip cookies.
Crafty Kids will learn T-shirt painting and origami among other arts and crafts skills.
Students in Around the World will learn about other cultures through photos and relics. Students will learn to count in another language, sample typical foods and play games that children from other countries play.
The cheerleading clinic will be taught cheering techniques like jumps and pyramids by the Central High School varsity cheerleaders.
