Educational and recreational activities are available for students ages 6 to 18 this summer at the Cape Girardeau Civic Center Boys and Girls Club.
Summer Fest 2001 kicked off Monday and will continue through the end of July. The free, all-day camp is being held at the center, located at 232 Broadway, and meets Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Transportation and lunch are provided in the morning and afternoon. In addition, a bus will pick up Summer Fest participants who attend summer school at Jefferson Elementary School each day at 12:15 p.m.
Summer Fest programming includes literacy, leadership and recreational components.
Each student must participate in a daily reading program sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
Leadership and social development clubs that are included in the Boys and Girls Clubs of America national model also are offered.
Students also may participate in organized recreational activities, arts and crafts classes, field trips, movies and nutritional education programs.
To register a student for the program, contact Harry Schuler or Fate Coaty at 335-7141.
