At least 200 people are expected to attend a childhood brain development seminar at Southeast Missouri State University on Saturday.
The seminar, which will take place from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Dempster Hall, is sponsored by Success By 6 and Child Care Resource and Referral.
Seats still are available for the seminar, according to local United Way officials. Parents and individuals who work in early childhood education are encouraged to attend.
Pam Schiller, an early childhood author and consultant and former kindergarten teacher, will be a seminar presenter. Schiller recently wrote a book called "Start Smart: Building Brain Power in the Early Years."
Success By 6 is an early childhood initiative coordinated by the Area Wide United Way that focuses on ensuring all children enter school ready to succeed at their optimum potential.
In Cape Girardeau, Success By 6 focuses on parent education, especially about recent brain research.
Child Care Resource and Referral is part of the Missouri Child Care Resource and Referral Network. The agency, which serves 20 counties in Southeast Missouri, assists families in finding child care and services for children with special needs.
Registration fee for the seminar is $12 per person, which can be paid at the door.
