Four area youths were named "Outstanding Music Campers" at summer music camp at Southeast Missouri State University.

Jill Lowes and Shaun Langford, both 13 and of Jackson, and Rebecca Lewis, 14, of Cape Girardeau, were among elementary and junior high-school students who received the award. Laura Sides, 14, daughter of Harold and Nelda Sides of Millersville Route 1, also received the honored. Sides plays the clarinet.

Lowes is the daughter of Ron and Marilyn Lowes and plays the alto saxophone. Langford is the son of John and Elaine Langford and plays percussion. Lewis is the daughter of Robert and Karen Lewis and plays the trumpet.

The camp was held in July

This is the 34th year for the camps, which are one of the largest in the nation, said Barry Bernhardt, Southeast director of activity bands and summer music camp.

The summer music camps continue through the first week of August.
