Ten Southeast Missouri State University students are headed for Wales today to student teach in elementary schools in Swansea.
Three days later, 10 students from the Swansea Institute of Higher Education will arrive in Cape Girardeau to learn more about American education over a five-week period.
The Southeast students headed to Wales are Christie Brown of New Madrid, Kristin Foster of Dexter, Valerie Lauderback of Chatham, Ill., Kristin McMichael of Columbia, Ill., Lori Mitchell of Oran, Tracy Nenninger and Darby Ulery of Cape Girardeau, Lilyn Schmitt of Manchester, Chastity Stanford of Bernie and Robin Wiegand of Jackson.
Dr. Jean Benton, faculty member and coordinator of international programs for Southeast's College of Education, will supervise the eight weeks that the students will be teaching in Wales.
When the Welsh students arrive in Cape Girardeau, they will spend the first two weeks living on campus in Dearmont Hall.
During their stay, they will teach in elementary schools in Cape Girardeau. They also will have short home stays with teachers in other cities in the region.
