To celebrate this day of thanksgiving, youngsters from Betty Heisserer's sixth-grade class at Jefferson Elementary School have written paragraphs about the people for whom they are most thankful.

The creative writing assignment was to describe the person without using their names. Below are the students' descriptions.

By Joseph Hamilton

"What I am thankful for is very sweet. She is loving and funny. I love her and I hope she loves me. Since she came I have a new little person to care about."

-- My sister Hannah

By Carrie Johnson

"I am thankful for a person who is old and has white hair and wrinkles. She is gentle and pretty. I love her so much even though sometimes she gets on my nerves. But I still love her and she loves me."

-- My grandma

By Shawn Stevens

"These people provide shelter, food, and clothing for me. They brought me into this world. They mean more to me than my life. They protect me also. They are sharing, caring and giving. If I had to describe them in one word that one word, all in all, would be loving."

-- My parents

By Jackie McAllister

"I'm thankful for this person. He is cute, understanding and strong. He wears diapers and his shoe size is next to nothing. He screams real loud all the time, and even though he's only 1, he understands what you are saying. He likes to drink milk from a bottle, and the only words he says all day are, `no,' `mine,' `oh,' and `ouch.' He's the youngest one in the bunch, but he's the only one for me!"

-- My cousin Danny

By James Ainsworth

"The person I'm thankful for is a person who lives with me, does my laundry, buys me clothes and just loves me. Sometimes this person gripes, groans and yells at me, but I love this person."

-- My mom

By James Lyerla

"He lets me borrow hats, ride his old bikes, and he even protects me. I am very thankful that he is in my life. He toughens me up by hitting me in the arm. He even lets me come over to his house."

-- My friend, David Dement

By Scott Hill

"I am thankful for the two people who brought me into this world. They take care of me when there are good things going on and bad things. They give me shelter. They buy the food that I eat. And I love them very much."

-- Mom and Dad

By Jennifer Gosche

"I am very thankful for two people. One is a woman and one is a man. They are very smart and they both have good jobs. They both support me well."

-- Mom and Dad

By Tamara King

"I am thankful for the person that brought the one that brought me in this world. And the one who can make the first best pies in the world - well that's what I think anyway. And she is too cool, but I love her anyway! I hope I get to eat some of her goody pie."

-- My grandmom

By David Dement

"It is a person who brought me into the world. This person is very, very nice. He buys me lots of stuff. He sometimes drives two to four hours to get me almost every weekend. He gives me money. This person can be mean sometimes, but he can be awesome too. I don't have to do chores at his house either."

-- Dad

By Jessica Porter

"I am thankful for these two wonderful people I love. If it weren't for these people I would not be born. If God weren't in their lives, I would probably be a rotten person. They both work at Hardees. The female is a hostess and the male is a biscuit maker. They live in the same house I do. The male is also a preacher at the Potter's House. They are the two most important people in my life besides God."

-- My parents

By Eric Wessel

"The things I am probably most thankful for are very important to me. These people are very special to me. I live with some of them and some of them I don't live with. I see most of them a lot and others I don't see as much. They love me and I love them. Who are these special people?"

-- My family

By Jessie Cline

"I am thankful for two special people. They take care of me and they clothe me. But most of all they love me."

-- My parents

By Azizi Ray

"I am thankful for two people. They live with me. They love me and care for me. They buy me things and care for me when I am sick or something, or if I need something, they will go buy it for me."

-- My parents

By Chiquita Bell

"I'm thankful for my family and this woman I really love to death. When I was born, she was the one who named me my name."

-- Grandma Annie Bell

By Niki Wagner

"I am thankful for this one special person I'm about to tell you about. This person is cute, sensitive, kind and funny. And this person always makes me laugh, even if I look at this person. He's always fun to be with. Ever since I've come to this school, I've liked him. This person has a beautiful smile also. He lives down the street from the school. He sits in the B group."

- Azizi

By Tasha Matty

"I am thankful for the person who brought me into this world. It is a woman. I do not live with her. She brought my brothers and my sister into the world too. She is very, very nice. She buys me lots of stuff. I am very thankful for her."

-- Mom

By Amber Walker

"It is a person. It is a man. He is an adult. He died. I am thankful for him taking care of us when my mom or dad wasn't home. He bought us a warm toilet seat. He was only 29 years old."

-- My Uncle John
