The Southeast Missourian held its first Design-An-Ad program in conjunction with Newspaper In Education Week, which runs through Sunday. The winner, Crissy Ellinghouse, created an ad for Children's Bazaar featured on this page.

In its pilot stages, art and industrial drafting students at L.J. Schultz School were invited to submit hand-drawn ads of local businesses for possible use in the newspaper during NIE Week.

One student was selected this year to have her Design-an-Ad published in the newspaper.

Southeast Missourian NIE coordinator Kim McDowell said: "This contest is a good way to teach students about both local businesses and advertising. It is also a good way to get students more interested in reading their local newspaper."
