Janet Smith, an eighth-grader at Cape Central Junior High School, was one student recently recognized by the Cape Girardeau Board of Education for outstanding achievement.

Each year, English teachers in Missouri submit students' works of prose and poetry to a committee of the Missouri Association of Teachers of English. Some of the works are chosen and printed in the annual publication Missouri Youth Writes.

Barbara Randolph, Janet's English teacher, submitted poems her students had written for a class assignment. Janet's poem, "It's Worth All My Cents," was chosen to be published in the spring 1996 issue.

Janet is the second student from CJHS to have a poem published in the book.
