A former drama student at Southeast Missouri State University will direct a production of "Smoke on the Mountain" on Broadway in New York this summer.
Jerry Mittelhauser, now associated with the Macon (Ga.) Little Theatre, will director the play as part of the American Association of Community Theatres convention.
As a student at Southeast, Mittelhauser worked with main stage productions of "The Good Doctor," "Amadeus" and "Snoopy." He directed and choreographed "Cleavage" in the lab theater and was also worked with Southeast's Golden Eagles marching band.
As part of the Broadway Players (now Broadway Community Theater) in Cape Girardeau, Mittelhauser directed and choreographed productions of "Dames at Sea," "Broadway Babies" and "Little Shop of Horrors."
"Smoke on the Mountain" was selected to represent Georgia at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Orlando last month. Mittelhauser won an award for best set design, and the crew picked up an award for best technical crew.
The production was then chosen to be a part of the New York convention. Macon Little Theatre is the only community theatre from the United States invited to perform at the convention.
"Smoke on the Mountain" will appear on the Circle in the Square theater on Broadway.
