WILLARD, Mo. -- A bomb squad was called in Monday to dispose of an inactive grenade that a second-grader brought for show and tell at school in this Southwest Missouri town.

Police Chief Tom McClain said teachers and authorities at Willard East Elementary could not tell by looking at the grenade if it was inactive, so it was taken outside and police bomb experts from nearby Springfield, Mo., were called.

No one was injured.

McClain said empty grenade shells are available at several shops, but this one didn't have a hole in the bottom and had something screwed on the top. He said the grenade was destroyed because it was better to be safe than sorry.
