Kala M. Stroup, president of Southeast Missouri State University, has been elected vice president of the Council on Public Higher Education for Missouri.
The Council is made up of the presidents of all public four-year higher education institutions in Missouri. It provides a forum to discuss common concerns and promotes cooperation among member institutions.
Stroup downplayed her role on the council. "The real truth of the matter is that we all work together and the leadership roles are assigned by way of a nominating committee," she said Wednesday.
Stroup said the council, among other things, has worked to promote a core curriculum for admission to Missouri's public colleges and universities.
"College and university presidents in Missouri do have a good, strong spirit of cooperation," she said.
The Council on Public Higher Education for Missouri is not the only board on which Stroup serves.
Stroup was appointed recently to the Advisory Committee of the AFROTC. The AFROTC is the largest commissioning program in the U.S. Air Force.
"As a new member, Dr. Stroup represents a valuable resource in helping us manage the AFROTC program," said USAF Lt. Gen. Joseph W. Ashy. "Committee members offer wise counsel on issues important to the educational future of our nation's youth."
