Several places will become off-limits for parking or driving beginning this weekend in anticipation of the SEMO District Fair, Cape Girardeau police said.
No parking signs will be placed around the Arena Park area today. Parking enforcement won't begin until 10 a.m. on Sunday, police said. Any vehicles parked illegally will be towed away at the owner's expense, and a traffic ticket will be issued, they said.
On Monday, parking will be restricted beginning at 7 a.m. in Capaha Park and along North West End Boulevard and Perry Avenue in preparation for the fair parade, which starts at 5:30 p.m. Capaha Park will be closed beginning at 1 p.m., and only vehicles actually used in the parade will be allowed inside the park.
Those who are dropping off parade participants are asked to drive to the intersection of West End Boulevard and Normal Street at an entrance to the park, police said.
West End Boulevard will be closed between Broadway and Normal Street at 4 p.m. to allow the parade to form.
Traffic on the following streets will also be restricted once the parade has started:
-- Broadway west of West End Boulevard.
-- Kingshighway between Broadway and Cape Rock Drive.
-- Broadview Street from Spartech Drive north to the entrance of Arena Park.
Police also said that traffic southbound on Kingshighway will be detoured west and south on East Rodney Street, then east onto Independence Street while the parade is in progress.
If possible, Broadview Street from Independence north to Spartech should be avoided during and after the parade, police said.
