JACKSON -- A small fire broke out in the kitchen area of the Cape Girardeau County Jail Sunday night, causing minor damage to a stove.
A spokesman for the Cape County Sheriff's Department said that at approximately 9:05 p.m. a fire was detected in the kitchen area of the jail, situated in the ground floor of the sheriff's department.
A deputy extinguished the fire before firefighters from the Jackson Fire Department arrived only minutes after the call, the spokesman said.
No one was injured in the incident.
