Severe storms Sunday night produced funnel clouds, unleashed torrential downpours and caused several power outages.

Jean Mason, Ameren UE's Southeast Missouri manager, said the storms knocked out power to 6,000 customers in Cape Girardeau and 4,000 in Scott City.

She said power was to be restored to both cities Monday evening and electric crews would be dispatched to St. Louis and Hayti, two areas hit hard by Sunday night's storms.

Gary Seib, who lives on Oak Hills Drive in Cape Girardeau, said the power went out at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

The storm knocked down a tree and a utility pole.

"We had a lot of fireworks in our back yard," Seib said.

The National Weather Service reported funnel cloud sightings over Millersville and Neelys Landing in Cape Girardeau County.

The storms blew down several tree branches in the area. Power outages and tree damage were also reported in Jackson and Scott City.
