The National Weather Service office in Paducah, Ky., has issued a winter storm watch effective until 6 p.m. Friday for Southeast Missouri.
The weather service forecasters are expecting snow to develop across Southeast Missouri by Thursday evening. The snow will likely persist into Friday morning. As of early Tuesday evening, computer models projected the heaviest snowfall toward the Bootheel, which could see 6 or more inches of snow. The Cape Girardeau area could see up to 4 inches of snow. Some sleet may mix with the snow, the weather service said, mainly along a line from Poplar Bluff, Mo., to Hopkinsville, Ky.
