At least 10 broken locks and two burglarized storage units were reported Sunday morning at the RD Mini Storage at 1215 S. Kingshighway.

Cape Girardeau police responded to a call at 9:55 a.m. from Rick Dippold, a part owner, who discovered the break-in when he noticed that several doors had no locks. Not all break-ins had been reported, and calls were still coming into the office Sunday evening, police officers said.

The suspects turned the 24-hour security cameras around during the burglary, so nothing was caught on tape.

"All we will know is when they turned the cameras," said Dippold, who will review the footage and determine the time of the incidents.

Those leasing units are responsible for providing their own insurance and reporting burglaries, said Dippold, who is only responsible for reporting property damage.

"The best that people could do is get a good lock," Dippold said, offering advice for better protection. Pieces of three or four locks were found when he surveyed the property, and they appeared to be the cheaper locks, he said.

As a result of the incidents, Dippold is considering installing hidden or harder-to-reach security cameras, but nothing is final, he said.

The property reported stolen includes a television, a jigsaw and a circular saw.

The investigation is ongoing, police officers said.

In an unrelated incident, Ryder Truck Rental and Leasing reported three radios stolen and vehicle windows broken Sunday at 2010 Southern Expressway. Also, two individuals reported two radios taken and windows broken from vehicles that were at the location.
