ST. LOUIS -- A century-old door to a confessional booth has been returned after it was stolen from a St. Louis Catholic church last week.

The Rev. Canon Andrew Todd, a vicar at St. Francis de Sales Oratory, said the door was dropped off at the church about 6 p.m. Sunday.

Todd says security cameras show a man dropping the door off at the church's back door, ringing the doorbell and running away.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported someone walked into the church and removed the door from its hinges last weekend.

The door has resided at St. Francis de Sales Oratory since the church's completion in 1908. The door is tall and ornately hand-carved. Todd said it's worth thousands of dollars.
