DEXTER, Mo. -- A Dexter man lost his life in a one-vehicle accident at the U.S. 60 and Highway 25 overpass Wednesday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 62-year-old Billy H. Gromer died at the scene after his 1991 Ford Ranger ran off the roadway and overturned several times. The vehicle had reportedly been eastbound on U.S. 60 and approached Highway 25 by exiting at the overpass ramp but failed to negotiate a turn onto Highway 25.
Gromer was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by acting coroner Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner.
The wreck occurred at 10:30 a.m.
Gromer was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, and there were no passengers in his vehicle, according to the patrol. His death marks the second fatality in Troop E for the new year.
