Steven J. Popp of Jackson has been named one of the Missouri Jaycees' ten Outstanding Young Missourians for 1995.

Popp is a real estate appraiser for Cunningham Bros. Appraisal Inc.

The award, sponsored by Missouri Public Service, recognizes 10 Missourians between the ages of 21 and 39 each year.

Since returning to his hometown of Jackson in 1987, Popp has plunged into community activities. last year, he won the Jackson Jaycees' Distinguished Service Award.

He has been on the board of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce since 1988. During his term as 1992-93 president, the chamber established a board to promote tourism in the Jackson area, launched a fund-raising golf tournament, completed a project to collect money to buy Christmas lights for the city and increased membership by 10 percent following a membership drive which Popp led.

He served on the Jackson Park Board from 1991 to 1994 and was its president for the latter two years. During his presidency, the city park system added a bicycle safety course for children and started the first phase of a veterans memorial.

Popp also is a board member of the Jackson Industrial Development Authority, a member of the Jackson Rotary Club and a former board member of the local United Way.

Popp was nominated for the honor by the Jackson Jaycees' and recieved his award Feb. 4 during the Missouri Jaycees' annual winter meeting at the Lodge of the Four Seasons at the Lake of the Ozarks.

He was picked by out-of-state judges from a field of 29 nominees.
