The Southeast Missourian newspaper won two awards for reporting of education from the Missouri State Teachers Association's annual contest.
The Missourian was honored for its weekly "Learning Page," and for YELL, the newspaper's annual literacy program.
The state-wide competition recognizes outstanding coverage of education and educational issues by the Missouri media. Nominations are judged on originality, impact, objectivity, timeliness, appeal and contribution to education. They are judged by the association's statewide Public Relations Committee.
First place and honorable mention honors are given in various categories. The Missourian has won multiple awards in the contest six times in the past eight years.
Awards will be presented to winners at MSTA's convention in St. Louis on Nov. 11, 1999. The 42,000-member MSTA is Missouri's leading education association and has been active for more than 143 years.
