State senator calls for special session over health care law

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- State Sen. Brad Lager is calling for a special session of the legislature to deal with any issues brought up by the Affordable Care Act.

Lager, a Republican from northwest Missouri, favors opting out of all portions of the health care law wherever possible. And Lager says if the governor won't call the special session, he has sent House Speaker Steven Tilley and Senate President Pro Tem Robert Mayer requests to call the legislature back into session on their own.

In a news release, Lager sites the 2010 public vote in which 71 percent of Missourians who went to the polls voted against a federally mandated health insurance program.

Lager is also a candidate for lieutenant governor.
