The lawyers of Missouri, voting in districts across the state, have elected six new members to the Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar and retained 12 incumbents.
Among the new members is Richard G. Steele, a member of the Cape Girardeau law firm of Bradshaw, Steele, Cochrane & Berens. He will represent District 7, which encompasses the Southeast Missouri.
Steele is a 1965 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, and is a 1968 graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia School of Law.
Steele has previously served as assistant prosecuting attorney for Cape Girardeau County and as a special assistant attorney general. He has been engaged in the general practice of law in Cape Girardeau since 1970.
Steele and the other members of the Board of Governors will take office at the conclusion of the 1997 Missouri Bar annual meeting in mid-September.
Other newcomers to the board include Jack Peace of Trenton, Don Witt of Platte City, Dennis J. Capriglione and Kathleen S. Schoene, both of St. Louis, and Dennis Owens of Kansas City.
Re-elected to the board were Bruce Bailey of Warrensburg, John A. Ruth of Jefferson City, John R. Sims of Neosho, John L. Walker of Camdenton, Bruce F. Hilton of Webster Groves, Annette Heller of Creve Coeur, Michael Pivac of Springfield, Mark Levison and William Corrigan, both of St. Louis, Joe B. Whisler and Cathy Dean, both of Kansas City, and Fred Drakesmith of St. Charles.
The Board of Governors of The Missouri Bar is the governing and policy-making body of the organization, elected by the 24,000 members of the state bar.
