State disaster committee encourages public to attend Sikeston meeting

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A state legislative committee formed to address disaster recovery will meet later this month in Sikeston.

The Interim Committee on Disaster Recovery will meet at 1 p.m. June 30 at the Clinton Community Building, 501 Campanella Drive, according to a news release. The committee will look at continuing efforts to help areas of Missouri affected by spring disasters, including flooding and tornadoes, and research how the state can best aid in the immediate recovery process.

New committee member Rep. Ellen Brandom, R-Sikeston, encourages the public to attend the committee hearing and share testimony on Southeast Missouri flooding. All ideas, knowledge and expertise shared at the hearing will aid the committee in formulating a comprehensive report detailing ways that the state can help the rebuilding process on a long-term scale, as well as ways to be better prepared for future natural disasters. The committee will submit a comprehensive report to the legislature by July 31.
