Five Southeast Missouri State University students will be honored in Jefferson City today at the second annual Student Achievement and Recognition Day. Five Southeast Missouri State University students will be honored in Jefferson City today at the second annual Student Achievement and Recognition Day.

The event is sponsored by the Council on Public Higher Education for Missouri.

Southeast students Dana Donovan of Ellisville, Debbie Sievers of Jackson, Michelle Friedrich of Oak Ridge, Steve Nenninger of Leopold and Susan Ho of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will be recognized among 65 students representing each of Missouri's public four-year institutions.

The recipients, all seniors, were selected for their contributions to campus life and scholastic achievement. A committee of Southeast faculty, staff and students selected the five Southeast representatives.

Honorees will be recognized at a luncheon program in the Jefferson City Ramada Inn by Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan and council members.

Kala M. Stroup, president of Southeast, also will participate.

The council is composed of all public four-year institutions in the state, including Southeast, Lincoln University, the University of Missouri System, University of Missouri-St. Louis, Central Missouri State University, Harris-Stowe State College, Southwest Missouri State University, Northwest Missouri State University, Missouri Southern State College, University of Missouri-Columbia, Missouri Western State College, University of Missouri-Rolla, University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Northeast Missouri State University.

Five students from each institution were selected to participate in the event.

Donovan has earned a 3.64 grade point average and will graduate with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She has been active in the Greek community for four years, serving as president of Delta Delta Delta sorority, secretary of the Order of Omega Greek honor society, a rush counselor, and a member of the Greek Judicial Board and the Greeks Advocating Mature Management of Alcohol.

Donovan is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha and the Leadership Board and serves as a Presidential Ambassador. She was a member of the 1992 Homecoming Steering Committee and has been involved in Student Government.

Sievers will receive a bachelor of science degree with a major in agriculture business and a minor in office management. She has achieved a 3.84 grade point average, has received the College of Science and Technology Honor Student Award and has been named to Who's Who Among Students in Colleges and Universities. Sievers is an active member of the Delta Tau Alpha Agriculture Honor Society and the Agriculture Club.

Friedrich will graduate with a degree in mass communication with a journalism option. She has earned a grade point average of 3.78 and is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Society of Collegiate Journalists. Friedrich is serving as a senior staff writer for the Capaha Arrow newspaper, is an active member of the university Honor's Program and has been named to the Dean's List of the College of Liberal Arts, the National Dean's List, and Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

Nenninger will receive a bachelor of science in business administration with a major in finance and has earned a 3.81 grade point average. A Governor's Scholarship recipient, Nenninger served as the student representative to the Board of Regents from 1990 to 1992 and was Student Government vice president in 1991.

Nenninger is a graduate of the university's Emerging Leaders Program and is a member of the Student Government funding board. He is a "Founding Father" of the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at Southeast. In addition, Nenninger is a Presidental Ambassador, a member of the Order of Omega, and was a Man of the Year finalist in 1992.

Ho has earned a 3.83 grade point average and will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in mass communications with an advertising and marketing emphasis and a bachelor of music degree in music performance. She has earned the National Direct Marketing Educational Foundation Scholarship, the Margaret Woods Allen Piano Scholarship, the National Student's Scholarship, and the Missouri Music Teachers Association College Auditions piano division award.

Ho has served as president and secretary of the Council of International Organizations and president of the Chinese Student Association. She has been involved in the Young Advertising Professionals organization and the Business/Professional Advertising Committee, named to Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities and the university Dean's List.
