Staff Sgt. Michael Griffin Jr., a member of Trowel Lodge 440 AF&AM in Marble Hill, Mo., was accepted into the Audie Murphy Society recently. The society was created for noncommissioned officers in a battle zone who attain an exceptional performance record. A commanding officer must nominate the soldier. The procedure of acceptance requires the candidate to go before three boards that scrutinize the soldier's knowledge of Army procedure. Griffin was one of four NCOs selected from 14 nominees. Audie Murphy was the most decorated soldier in Army history. He was a Mason and belonged to Hollywood Lodge 542 F&AM along with such Hollywood legends as Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, W.C. Fields and John Wayne.
