St. Vincent's College open for tours, slide shows for Riverfest
Free tours of historic St. Vincent's College, 201 Morgan Oak, will be available both days of Riverfest. The slide show, "A Pictorial History of Cape Girardeau," is also scheduled for viewing Friday evening and twice on Saturday.
Tours will be given of the old seminary following each of the slide show presentations, which are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday. The combined slide show and tour of the building will last approximately an hour and a half.
The historic building was built in three stages: 1843, 1853 and 1871. It was purchased from the Congregation of the Mission (the Vincentians) in 1992 by the Colonial Cape Girardeau Foundation. The foundation plans to transform the building into a cultural center and museum, emphasizing regional history, while preserving the historic flavor of the structure.
The slide show, which was developed by the Southeast Missourian, provides glimpses of Cape Girardeau's past through photographs taken from the late 1800s to the 1960s. The public is invited to attend and there will be no admission charged.
