ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis police said Tuesday that they were questioning a suspect in the shooting of a mail carrier, but spokeswoman Schron Jackson did not immediately have additional information to disclose.
Terry Marcrum, 44, was shot in the shoulder and the back of his head while on his mail rounds Monday afternoon. He was in uniform but delivering mail in his own car at the time of the shooting near the South Grand neighborhood. Authorities have not identified a motive in the shooting, but did not think Marcrum was targeted for robbery.
The alderwoman of the 15th ward, Jennifer Florida, said there has been no outward sign of an increase in gang activity or gang graffiti in the area in recent months.
She said places have been identified as "problem properties where we think they're dealing drugs, and where there are drugs there are guns, and where there are guns, there may be gangs."
She said she's advising residents to be vigilant and that instances of violence in the ward are troubling and need to be addressed.
