ST. LOUIS -- The city of St. Louis says it will do all it can to help hundreds of laid off Anheuser-Busch employees.

The newly combined Anheuser-Busch InBev brewery said Monday it will cut its work force by about 1,400 jobs, with 75 percent of the cuts at the St. Louis and Sunset Hills office.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay calls it a "very painful day" for the people who are losing their jobs and for the people who depend on them.

The St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment will offer Anheuser-Busch employees who are laid off help finding new jobs, going back to school or getting additional training. The agency will also help those who might want to start their own businesses.
