The single-car crash happened about 4:25 a.m. Tuesday when the cruiser struck a utility pole. The accident closed the busy intersection of Manchester and Kingshighway for some time.
Investigators say the officer was not on a call at the time of the wreck, and they're still trying to figure out how it happened.
