BENTON -- Several students from St. Denis School recently won awards at local science, math and essay contests.
Janessa Burford, a fourth-grade student, won second place in the math concepts division at the regional math contest last month. She is eligible to attend the state contest held in Columbia in May.
Janelle Essner, another fourth-grade student, also received fifth place in the problem-solving division at the regional contest.
Two other students will advance to state competition for their winning essays in a contest sponsored by the Oran Knights of Columbus.
Amber Scherer, an eighth-grade student, and Cara Scherer, a fifth-grade student, both placed in the "Who Has Been the Most Positive Influence in My Life?" essay contest.
Justin Essner, an eighth-grade student, also received the Eastman Kodak Award at the SEMO District Science Fair last month. His project compared the price and quality of various films.
